More Than Just a Photo Spot
When complete, the installation will serve as:
- A landmark for visitors to capture their time in Killington.
- A gathering space for locals to connect, celebrate, and remember.
- A living record of our shared history—told through skis, snowboards, and stories.
Be Part of the Story
We invite you to follow along as this project comes to life—watch the transformation from donated gear to finished sculpture, and share your own memories tied to Killington. Your involvement helps make this artwork a true reflection of our vibrant, welcoming mountain community.
A Creative Tribute at the Heart of Killington
The KPAA Beautification Project is bringing a bold, interactive public art sculpture to the Killington Welcome Center—a central hub for residents, visitors, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This permanent outdoor installation will be more than a beautiful landmark—it will be a living tribute to the people, stories, and spirit of Killington.
The Artwork
The sculpture will spell out “KILLINGTON” in large, three-dimensional letters, each one crafted from repurposed skis and snowboards generously donated by the local community. These are not just materials—they’re memories. Many pieces come with personal histories, including items contributed in honor of beloved residents, long-time visitors, and local heroes who have passed. Families have shared how meaningful it is to see their loved ones’ gear woven into a lasting public tribute in the very heart of town.
Inspired by Community & Creativity
This project draws inspiration from the “LOVE” sculpture featured at Killington Resort’s Subaru WinterFest—a joyful, eye-catching installation that became a social media sensation. In the same spirit, the KILLINGTON sculpture is designed to be:
- Bold – A striking, can’t-miss piece along the Access Road.
- Accessible – Welcoming everyone to explore, photograph, and enjoy.
- Interactive – Encouraging visitors to share their own Killington stories and memories.
The Artist
The sculpture will be designed and fabricated by Charles Kapp, a professional ironworker and long-time Killington community member. Known for his large-scale steelwork at local favorites like Base Camp, Liquid Art, and The Lookout, Charles blends technical mastery with deep local roots. His commitment to public art and his understanding of the Killington spirit make him the ideal lead artist for this one-of-a-kind installation.
Together, we’re building more than a sculpture. We’re building a legacy.
